Percentage of embroidery is determined by the amount of surface area on the custom embroidered patch that is covered by thread. The diagrams above explain embroidery percentages. We base our embroidery percentages upon 3 basic amounts: 50%, 75%, and 100%. Green and Black areas represent stitching, white areas represent twill.

Step 4: Select The Style Of Border

A merrow border is when the thread wraps around the edge of the patch and forms what can be compared to piping. Merrow border can only be used when the patch is a standard shape such as a square, triangle, rectangle, circle, etc.

A hot cut border has the thread up the very edge of the patch and then the patch is cut using a hot knife. The resulting edge forms a very clean and crisp patch. Hot cut border is recommended for custom embroidered patches with iron-on backing or those patches that are cut to shape around the design.
